AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO
2000-428 PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS 1N EACH CLASSIFICATION OF
POLICE OFFICER, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH
CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE, PROVIDING
A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, on November 28, 2000, the C~ty Council passed Ordinance No 2000-428 to
implement the recommendation of the F~refighters' and Pohce Officers' C~wl Service
Commmmon of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director
of Clwl Service, Denton Pohee Department and Denton F~re Department, adopting and
approving a schedule of Authorized Potations which relates to compensatmn and classfficat~on of
pohce officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, mnce the passage of Or&nance No 2000-428, the Pohce Department has
determined that th~s ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Pohce D~partment potations adds three sergeant pos~t~ons and deletes three pohce officer (and
Recruits) poslt~ons, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION 1 That Ordinance 2000-428 ~s hereby amended by adopttng the schedule
prescribing the number of potations for each clasmficatlon of pohce officer and fire fighter in the
C~ty of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference here~n as Exhibit A, ~s hereby
approved
SECTION 2 That Ordinance 2000-428 and all prior or&nances or resolutmns of the
C~ty of Denton, Texas, m conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of any such conflict
SECTION 3 That th~s ordinance shall become effective ~mme&ately upon ~ts passage
and approval

WHEREAS, on July 17, 2001, the City Council passed Ordinance No 2001-232 to
implement the recommendation of the Flreflghtcrs' and Pohce Officers' Civil Service
Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director
of Civil Service, Denton Police Department and Denton Fire Department, adopting and
approving a schedule of Authonzed Poslt~ons which relates to compensation and classification of
pohce officers and fire fighters, and
WItEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 2001-232, the Pohce Department has
determln0d that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Pohce Department positions adds one captain position, removes one lieutenant position, adds
one sergeant position, and adds one police officer (and Recruits) positions, NOW,
THEREFORE,
THE COLrNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
S]~CTION 1 That Ordinance 2001-232 is hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescribing the number of positions for each classification of pohce officer and fire fighter in the
C~ty of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, is hereby
approvedi
S~CTION 2 That Ordinance 2001-232 and all prior ordinances or resolutions
of
the
City of D'~nton, Texas, m conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of any such conflict
SI~CTION 3 That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon ~ts passage
