AN ORDINANCE SUPERCEDING AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO 2000-247 TO ADD
A SCHOOL ZONE FOR WAYNE RYAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, DESIGNATING AND
ESTABLISHING A SCHOOL SAFETY SPEED ZONE, REDUCING THE MAXIMUM PRIMA
FACIE SPEED LIMIT FOR SAID SCHOOL SAFETY SPEED ZONE TO A SPEED FOUND TO
BE REASONABLE AND SAFE BY THE ENGINEERING AND TRANSPORTATION
DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATIONS FOR THE DESIGNATED HOURS, PROVIDING FOR
SCHOOL BUS LOADING ZONES AT CERTAIN SCHOOLS, PROVIDING A PENALTY OF
A FINE NOT TO EXCEED TWO ~RED DOLLARS ($200 00), PROVIDING A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION, AND DECLARING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION' 1. That based upon an Engmeenng and Transportation Department investigation
heretofore made, as anthonzed by the prowslons of Section 545 357 of the Transportation Code,
V T C A, the prima facie speed lunar of twenty (20) miles per hour for vehicles is hereby
determined and declared to be prima facle reasonable and safe, and such speed limit IS hereby fixed
for vehicles travelmg within the following described school zones
A That the time periods for the reduced speeds for the school zones described below shall be
fi`om 7 30 a m until 8 30 a m and from 2 30 p m until 3 30 p m on school days The location of
school zones described below shall be as follows to-wit
1 Borman Elementary School
Both directions of Parvln Street begmmng 50 feet east of where Pavan Street intersects the
center line of MeConmck Street to 100 feet east of where Parvln Street intersects the center
line of Mereedes Street
2 Newton Rayzor Elementary School
Both chrect~ons of Malone Street begmmng 50 feet north of where Malone Street intersects
the center hne of Cordell Street to 100 feet north of where Malone Street mterseets the center
line of Emery Street
3 Glnnmgs Elementary School
Both chreetions of Stuart Road begmmng 250 feet north of where Stuart Road mtersects the
center hne of Imperial Drive to 175 feet north of where Stuart Road intersects the center line
of Sun Valley Street

person to operate or park a motor vebacle other than a school bus m a herein described School Bus
Loading Zone An mdlvldual adjudged guilty of the provision of flus sectaon shall be gmlty of a
misdemeanor and punished by a fine not to exceed Two Hundred Dollars ($200 00)
,qRCTIC)N 7. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of all other ordinances of the City of
Denton defining school zones and school bus loading zones and shall not repeal any of the
promslons of smd ordinances except m those instances where provlslons of those orchnances are in
direct conflict w~th the provisions of tbas ordinance
,ql~.CTION 8. That if in any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word
in tbas ordinance, or apphcatlon thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid by any court
of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity of the remalmng portions of this
ordinance, and the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas hereby declares it would have enacted
such remaimng portions despite any such invalidity
,qRi2.TION g That this orchnance shall become effective fourteen (14) days from the date of
its passage, and the City Secretary is hereby darected to cause the caption of flus ordinance to be
pubhshed twice in the Denton Record-Chromcle, the official newspaper of the City of Denton,
