AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE
NO ~98-293 PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH
CLASSIFICATION OF POLICE OFFICER, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF
POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, PROVIDING A
SAV1]qGS CLAUSE, PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, on September 15, 1998, the Caty Councd passed Ordinance No 98-
293 to nnplement the recommendataon of the Famfighters' and Pohce Officers' Cavil
Servme Comnusmon of the Caty of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendataon and request
of the ~Dlreetor of Carol Servme, Denton Pohce Department, and Denton F~re Department,
adopting and approvmg a schedule of Authorized Pomtaons whmh relates to
compensataon and clasmficatlon of police officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 98-293, the Fare Department has
determined that thru ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total
number of Fare Department pomttons to ehmmate one (1) Deputy Fare Chaef pomtaon, and
add two (2) Battahon Chaef pomtaons, and add two Captmn posltaons, and add five (5)
Dnvee pomtaons, and twelve (12) fire fighter pomtaons, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
~ SECTION 1 That Ordmance No 98-293 as hereby amended by adoptang the
schedule prescnblng the number of posltaons for each clasmficataon of pohce officer and
fire fighter m the Caty of Denton, attached hereto and ancorporated by reference herean as
Exinbtt A, as hereby approved
SECTION 2 That Ordinance 98-124 and all prior ordinances or resolutions of
the C~ty of Denton m conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of any such
conflaet
I SECTION 3 That ffany prommon of tins ordanance or apphcatlon thereof to any
person or mreumstance as held anvalld, such mvaladaty shall not affect the other provmaons
or applmataons, and to tins end the provaslons of this ordinance are severable
SECTION 4 That thru ordmance shall become effectave ammedlately upon ats
passage and approval

POLICE OFFICER, RENAMING CERTAIN POSITIONS IN THE CLASSIFICATION OF
"BATTALION CHIEF" FOR FIREFIGHTERS AND CREATING NEW CLASSIFICATIONS
BY DELEATION AND RECLASSIFICATION, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF
POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, PROVIDING A SAVINGS
CLAUSE; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING THE EFFECTIVE
DATE OF OCTOBER 1, 2000
WHEREAS, on February 8, 2000, the City Cotmcd passed Ordinance No 2000-049 to
implement the recommendation of the Flrefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service
Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director
of Civil Service, Denton Police Department and Denton Fire Department, adopting and
approving a schedule of Authorized Positions which relates to compensation and classification of
police officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 2000-049, the Fire Department has
determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Fire Department positions That one position of Battalion Chief is deleted and creates the Fire
Chief Appointed Position of Fire Division Chief, that three Battalion Chief positions will be
renamed as Battalion Chief-Operations (three positions), reclassify one Battalion Chief position
to the classification of Battalion Chief-Emergency Medical Services Program Manager (one
position), reclassify one Battalion Chief position to the classification of Battalion Chief-
Information Services Manager (one position), reclassify a captmn position to the classification of
Fire CaptoavdLoglstms-Mmntenance Officer (one position), and adds six Fire Fighter positions,
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 2000-049, the Police Department has
determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Police Department positions adds four (4) Police Officer (and Recruit) positions, NOW,
THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAiNS
SECTION 1 That Ordinance 2000-049 is hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescribing the number of positions for each classification of police officer and fire fighter in the
City of Benton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, is hereby
approved
SECTION 2 That Ordinance 2000-049 and all prior ordinances or resolutions of the
City of Denton, Texas, in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of any such conflict
