Oreetingg:
WHEREAS, it is a privilege of the Office of the Mayor to recognize and honor organizations whose outstanding
service and positive contributions enhance the quality of life for the residents of the City of Denton;
and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,Incorporated&--founded on January 15, 1908,at Howard University
in Washington,D.C.as the first Greek-letter organization established by African American women
has grown into an international service organization of nearly 350,000 members committed to 118
years of Service to All Mankind,a legacy proudly celebrated by the Omega Alpha Omega Chapter
on the occasion of Founders' Day;and
WHEREAS, the City of Denton recognizes and commends Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,Incorporated®,Omega
Alpha Omega Chapter for its dedication and service to the Denton community through charitable
contributions and ongoing support of local organizations,including the MLK Jr.Recreation Center
and Denton County Friends of the Family,and thanks the Omega Alpha Omega Chapter for being
an outstanding community partner.
NOW,THEREFORE, I,Gerard Hudspeth,Mayor of the City of Denton,Texas,do hereby declare and proclaim the 15th
day of January 2026 as
"ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY,INCORPORATED®, FOUNDERS DAY"
in the City of Denton and encourage all residents to join in celebrating this milestone and the
Chapter's continued commitment to Service to All Mankind.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF,I have hereunto set my hand and caused the official
