Monthly Mobility Report – Innovative Transportation Solutions (ITS) provides a monthly report that includes an overview of Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) regional projects. National Night Out Registration Now Open – On Tuesday, Oct. 6, residents across Denton will host cookouts, block parties, and other community events in celebration of National Night Out (NNO). Each year on the first Tuesday of October, residents organize events to meet and build connections with their neighbors, as well as the first responders and City officials who serve them. Denton Police, Fire, and other City personnel will visit registered NNO parties throughout the evening to strengthen relationships with residents. If a party host would like City staff to attend their gathering, they are encouraged to register at www.cityofdenton.com/nno by Friday, Sept. 25. Community Services Funding Survey and Public Meeting - Each year, the City of Denton receives federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for community development programs and projects, housing, and public services for low- and moderate-income households. The City is requesting community feedback to prioritize how to use these funds at a public meeting on Sept 16, at 6 p.m. at Quakertown Civic Center (321 E. McKinney Street, Denton, TX 76201) for the 2027-2028 program year beginning Oct. 1, 2027. Residents can also provide feedback between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31. through the Community Development Funding Survey (2027-2028). Inclement Weather Shelter – From Aug. 20 through Aug. 26, the Inclement Weather Shelter at the Denton Community Shelter (909 N. Loop 288) was opened seven times. The inclement weather shelter is opened in accordance with the City’s Use of Facilities for Inclement Weather Policy to provide overnight cooling for individuals when there is a Major or Extreme HeatRisk. The below table details the shelter’s utilization and capacity through this period and Attachment B is the Denton County Public Health Heat-Related Illness Surveillance Report for the week of Aug. 9 through Aug. 15. Shelter capacity peaked this past week on Aug. 23 with 200 individuals. Although standard capacity during inclement weather is 195 beds, Our Daily Bread further expands capacity at the shelter when the need arises. Additional information on shelter and weather resources, including instructions on how to sign up for inclement weather alerts, can be found on the City’s website. Mayor’s Pet Spotlight – Meet Dasa Baby Dog. This sweet, 50-pound certified good boy is eagerly waiting a home. His name is Dasa Baby Dog because he embodies BABY energy in its purest form. Dasa Baby Dog has been at the shelter for over 150 days, with very few visitors and no one willing to give him a chance. Despite this, he’s a staff and volunteer favorite. He’s dog-indifferent, and we do recommend a meet & greet if you have pups at home. He even spent a short time in a foster home to decompress, and his foster reported that he did wonderfully. We have promoted this silly, wiggly, lovable boy everywhere—Facebook, Reels, events, in-shelter features, and now as the Mayor’s Spotlight Pet. Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center – The City of Denton Parks and Recreation Department will be performing repairs to the dam of the wetland pond beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 1, to replace a crossing over the outfall structure that existed prior to the damaging floods in 2025. The contractor will work on-site for two weeks. Park users should avoid this area during construction or be prepared to turn around if hiking the trail. North Trinity Bridge Update – On Aug. 17, Mayor Pro Tem Stevens inquired about the status of the reconstruction of the 1-lane bridge to a 2-lane bridge on North Trinity Road. Staff reached out to TxDOT and confirmed the project is scheduled to be finished by early October. The contractor is placing flex base and will continue that operation until mid-next week. The Hot mix will follow once the flex base is complete. The other outstanding items will be placing metal beam guard fence, striping, backfill shoulders /slopes, and placing block sodding.
