Public Meetings & Agendas | Denton, TX (civicplus.com) General Information & Status Updates A.New Community Engagement Tool – The City plans to launch Rep’d, a new video engagement tool to supplement existing outreach and allow residents to ask questionsthrough the platform and receive personalized video responses from City staff. EngageDenton will remain the primary resident inquiry tool. Starting Wednesday, Aug. 14, a new “Ask City Hall” icon will be added to the City’s homepage for residents to access. The tool will be gradually promoted across variouscommunication channels, including social media. Staff contact: Kayla Herrod, Marketingand Communications B.Vegetation at Nottingham Drive and East University Drive Intersection – At the Aug. 6 City Council meeting, a resident expressed concerns regarding shrubs and trees at theintersection of Nottingham Drive and East University Drive blocking visibility formotorists. Staff audited the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) managedintersection on Aug. 7 and requested trimming the trees and shrubs along East UniversityDrive. Staff will re-evaluate the intersection after the cutting. Staff contact: Chandra Muruganandham, Transportation Services C.Texas Public Power Association Finance Committee – Tony Puente, general manager ofDenton Municipal Electric, has been appointed to the Finance Committee for the TexasPublic Power Association (TPPA). Puente will serve in this role for FY 2024-2025. TPPA is an Austin-based trade group representing Texas's community-owned electricutilities and public power-allied entities. TPPA serves as an industry advocacy andcommunication organization and a clearinghouse of information for training andtechnology. Responses to Council Member Requests for Information A.Securing Fire-Damaged Abandoned Building – On Jul. 28, Mayor Hudspeth forwardedan inquiry from a resident regarding an abandoned building that recently sustained fire damage, affecting approximately 90% of the structure. On Jul. 29, the site was inspected by the Chief Building Inspector, and the building owner determined that securing thestructure was needed. On Aug. 6, a Notice and Order was issued after meeting with theowner. The owner has agreed to secure the structure by Aug.19, with part of the structureset to be demolished. Staff will continue to monitor the location and enforce compliance with the notice and permitting requirements if needed. Staff contact: Billy Ewton, Building Inspections B.All-Way Stop Sign - On July 31, Mayor Hudspeth requested consideration of an all-waystop at the intersection of East Prairie and North Bradshaw. Staff is working with a design consultant on potential options for redesigning the intersection. Staff will coordinate the best solution once the design consultant provides options. Staff contact: Scott Fettig,Capital Projects 2 C.Special Event Application – On Aug. 1, Mayor Pro Tem Meltzer requested staff tocontact Interfaith Ministries about the special events process for their planned all-abilities walk/roll event in October. Staff provided the event planner with the special events application and guidance on the next steps. Staff contact: Arianna Such, Parks andRecreation D.State School Drainage Area – On Aug. 2, Council Member Holland forwarded a resident’s inquiry to build a trail within a drainage area east of FM 2499, near Briercliff Park. On Aug. 6, staff met the resident on-site to discuss the concept and informed theresident that the department would consider it for a future pilot project. Staffcontact: Gary Packan, Parks and Recreation E.Business Owner Inquiry Regarding Tree Preservation Plan – On Aug. 2, Mayor Hudspeth forwarded a resident inquiry regarding approving a Tree Preservation Plan (TPP). The final approval and permitting are pending with the completion of the Civil Engineering Plan. Since any changes to the Civil Engineering Plan could affect the TPP, it cannot be finalized until the Civil Engineering Plan receives final approval. Staff contact: Bryce Van Arsdale, Development Services F.Inoperable Vehicle Towed from Residence Street Parking – On Aug. 2, Mayor Hudspeth shared an inquiry from a resident regarding a vehicle towed while they were out of town. Staff investigated and determined that another resident reported an inoperable vehicle parked on the street. In accordance with the City’s Code of Ordinances, staff placed a notification sticker on the vehicle five days before towing it. Staff contact: Derek Bradford, Police G.Residential Recycling Partial Service – On Aug. 3, Council Member Byrd shared aresident’s inquiry regarding partial trash and recycling service. The following day, staff completed the service for this resident. Staff is continuing to investigate why routing software indicated that the service had been completed while the material remained atthe curb. Staff contact: Brian Boerner, Solid Waste H.Hobson Lane Street Repair – On Aug. 4, Council Member Holland requested repair of a pothole on Hobson Lane. Staff patched the pothole temporarily and will schedule permanent repairs within the next two months. Staff contact: Ethan Cox, Streets I.Commercial Trash Container on University Drive – On Aug. 7, Mayor Hudspeth inquiredabout the roll-off container at a commercial business on University Drive. The container was inspected on Aug. 7, and City staff will work with the commercial business to address code compliance. Staff contact: Brian Boerner, Solid Waste &Recycling J.Downtown Quiet Zones – On Aug. 7, Mayor Hudspeth requested an update on the status of the Downtown Quiet Zone project. The City is currently in the design phase of the project. During the design review, an additional preliminary engineering agreement for 3 the railroad signal and gate improvements at the Sycamore crossing was requested. The amendment is scheduled for City Council consideration on Sep. 17. If approved, project advertising for construction is anticipated to begin in Q4 of 2024 and construction in Q2 of 2025. Staff contact: Robin Davis, Capital Projects K.Nottingham Drive Street Repair – On Aug. 7, Mayor Hudspeth inquired about anyupcoming plans for street repairs to Nottingham Drive north of U.S. 380. Based on Nottingham Drive’s condition, the road will require a full reconstruction and will be evaluated for inclusion in a future bond program. Staff contact: Ethan Cox, Streets L.Utility Wires Hanging from Utility Pole – On Aug. 8, Council Member Byrd inquiredabout wires hanging from a utility pole. Denton Municipal Electric dispatched a truck to investigate. Upon investigation, it was determined that the wires were communication wires. Staff removed the wires as they were not in use.
