Public Meetings & Agendas | Denton, TX (civicplus.com) General Information & Status Updates A. APPA Diamond Safety Award – Denton Municipal Electric (DME) has earned the American Public Power Association’s Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2024. The Diamond designation highlights the department’s incident-free records and overall state of the safety programs and culture, and is based on the number of work-related reportable injuries or illnesses and the number of work-hours during the year, as defined by OSHA. In one of the most dangerous professions, DME is proud of our Safety Team and all of our employees for the dedication to safety throughout the department. Staff contact: Jerry Fielder, DME B. Mayor’s Pet Spotlight – This Easter take home Egg! She is a lively and energetic 3-year- old Shepherd mix who has been in the shelter since February 27, 2025. With a stay of over a month, Egg is eager to find a home where she can thrive. Her mental state is positive, but the shelter environment is not ideal for her active nature. Egg loves to run with her owner, making her a perfect companion for someone who enjoys outdoor activities. She is food motivated, which can be a great advantage for training and building a strong bond with her family. Egg does tend to jump on people and pull on the leash, so she would benefit from a home that can provide guidance and patience in these areas. As a Shepherd mix, Egg is intelligent and loyal, traits that make her a wonderful addition to any home willing to invest time in her development. Her playful and affectionate demeanor will surely bring joy to her future family. Please contact Denton Animal Services by phone at (940) 349-7594 or via email at Animal.Services@cityofdenton.com. Staff contact: Bailey Coleson, Animal Services. Responses to Council Member Requests for Information A. Inclement Weather Policy – On April 16, Council Member McGee requested the work session on City Policy 500.07 Use of City Facilities for Inclement Weather, scheduled for Sept. 9, not be limited to cold weather and be moved up in advance of the summer. The policy is currently under review, and the September discussion will cover the full policy, including definitions and thresholds for low temperatures (below 32°F), high temperatures (above 100°F), and declared weather emergencies. Staff Contact: Christine Taylor, City Manager’s Office 2 B. Road Safety Audit of Hobson Lane Bridge – On April 10, Council Member Holland inquired about vehicle crashes at a bridge on Hobson Lane. Staff conducted a comprehensive road safety and traffic operations audit around the bridge. Audit findings include the eastbound speed limit sign and guardrails have been hit several times within the last 12 months. Short-term implementation recommendations include reinstalling the speed limit sign further west outside the guardrails and adding retroreflective buttons on the centerlines. The estimated completion timeline is May 30. Long-term recommendations will be evaluated during the City’s annual budget process. Staff contact: Chandra Muruganandham, Transportation Services C. Contract Incentives – On April 10, Council Member McGee inquired whether the City offers incentives in road construction contracts for early completion. The City has the option to incorporate incentives into some contracts based on the scope of work and funding source. The City recently utilized incentives for a Texas Department of Transportation utility relocation project, where the incentives were reimbursed to the City. Staff contact: Seth Garcia, Capital Projects D. Corbin Road Development – On April 11, Mayor Pro Tem Meltzer inquired about scheduling a neighborhood meeting for the 195 project located off Corbin Road scheduled for Council consideration on May 6th. The Denia Neighborhood Association plans to include this item on the agenda for their April 28 meeting, and the developer is welcome to attend. Staff will be available to address any questions following either meeting. Staff contact: Christine Taylor, City Manager’s Office E. Speed limit signs on Scripture Street – On April 15, Mayor Pro Tem Meltzer shared an inquiry about a speed study and the speed limit signage on Scripture Street. Staff completed a speed study at this location and installed speed limit signs in 2024. However, it was found that the signs are now missing. Staff will install new speed limit signs for eastbound and westbound traffic with a marked speed limit of 30 mph. Installation is scheduled for completion by April 24. Additionally, Staff will report the missing sign issue to the Denton Police Department. Staff Contact: Farhan Butt, Transportation Services F. Eagle Creek Development- On April 9, Council Member Beck relayed a resident's inquiry about contractor site requirements for trash and debris at the Eagle Creek Development. City staff followed up with both the resident and the contractor, relaying the site needs and expectations. Staff also examined the area for the potential of adding a floatable debris trap and determined it was not necessary. Staff will continue to monitor the development for ongoing site maintenance.
